Fall 2015
Here is an extremely overdue fishing report. We are transitioning into fall here in The Florida Keys just like the rest of the country. Fall season means that water temperatures will be on the decline which should get the flats fired up. As the water temps cool the conditions will determine what the target species will be each day. Right now the water temperatures are perfect for tarpon, bonefish, and permit. The water will continue to cool with more passing fronts which will

August
August has been a spectacular month for fishing. Winds are light, seas are calm and the water is warm. It's an ideal time to pursue the big three- tarpon, bonefish and permit. Here are some highlights of the last week or so. I fished with Clinton and Leanne from West Palm. Had a great time catching some jacks, got a shot at some bonefish and Clinton landed his first tarpon. Sue and Kevin were down from Atlanta for a short vacation. Had a great time fishing with these guys- we

Here's to our Friends in the North.
I keep waiting for the weather to turn and warm everything up but the cold fronts just keep on coming. It's hard to complain about our "cool" weather though when our friends to the north are buried in snow! And we're still catching fish here. Had a great day on the water with Gil from Orlando, he and his wife were down for a nice getaway, enjoying the Florida Keys. We had some good action sight fishing- catching sharks, barracudas and a couple jack crevalles. It was one of th

February on the Flats
Had a sight fishing trip with Joseph and Ben from Germany. The guys came down to the Lower Keys to escape winter temperatures and fish the flats of the Florida Keys for the first time. We started the day going after baby tarpon with Ben catching his first ever tarpon. We then hit the flats and hooked up with many nice barracudas in the shallows. Also, came across a few bonefish- had a good shot but weren't able to hook up. We finished the day with jacks, snapper and hooked up
Early Season Tarpon
Decided to go out and see if we could find any early tarpon. Tarpon season for the lower keys is in the spring months but with the amazing warm weather we've been having the water temperature is up in the high 70's- which can trigger the "big" tarpon to start moving into the backcountry. I was very pleased to see several large tarpon rolling in the few places we fished. We hooked 3 and landed one- they all looked to be in the 80-100 lb range. Tarpon fishing is one of the most

First Trip of the New Year!
I hope everyone had a happy holiday season! First fishing trip of the New Year. I'm glad to see the water temps in the mid 70's. The weather has been amazing with day time highs in the 80's. Went out for a short afternoon trip to catch seatrout with Nicole and Branson. The fish were very cooperative with lots of action from seatrout, jacks, ladyfish and snapper. Had a great time and came back to the dock with fish for the dinner table. The permit bite should get better and be

Florida Keys Fishing in the Winter
Dec. 18th- Lots of torpedo size barracudas and big sharks on the flats right now. People often underestimate the excitement of catching barracudas on the flats- but with their explosive strikes, long runs, and acrobatic jumps, it is quite thrilling. Although the water temps are a little cool (69-70), we did see one nice permit tailing across the flat. Dec. 19th- Went out prospecting and fishing with another local guide. Once again multiple shots at big barracudas and sharks.

Great day to be on the water.
Water temps are back in the 70's on the flats and the wind has calmed down a bit. Went out with a buddy of mine to do a little bonefishing today. Flats were active with sharks, barracuda, and bonefish. Had some good shots at bones and ended up with a couple of nice fish. Finished the day catching a few trout for the dinner table. Great day to be on the water! #backcountry #fishing #flats #bonefish #floridakeys #littletorch #bigpine

Barracudas with the Brockways
For the last couple weeks in the Florida Keys we have been getting hit hard by strong winds and cooler temperatures. Sunday had the mercury finally rising again with much needed, warmer daytime temperatures. The forecast for Monday called for temperatures in the 70's and winds from 15-25 knots (not ideal, but doable). So Monday morning I went out with brothers Don and Richard Brockway. Don, from Athens, GA and Richard, from Vero Beach, FL were down in the Keys for a post Than

Tarpon and Trout Fishing with Pavel and his Dad
Went out fishing today with a father and son duo- both named Pavel. Pavel Sr. is in town from the Czech Republic visiting his son in the Florida Keys. Their goal for this trip was to catch a tarpon and some seatrout. The tarpon were laying low- didn't see any rolling action, but did manage to find a few. Landed a nice tarpon- Pavel's first on the flats. Overall, it was a great day with a tarpon, some trout, jacks, and snapper. The weather was awesome- warm and in the 80's. Th
