Barracudas with the Brockways

For the last couple weeks in the Florida Keys we have been getting hit hard by strong winds and cooler temperatures. Sunday had the mercury finally rising again with much needed, warmer daytime temperatures. The forecast for Monday called for temperatures in the 70's and winds from 15-25 knots (not ideal, but doable). So Monday morning I went out with brothers Don and Richard Brockway. Don, from Athens, GA and Richard, from Vero Beach, FL were down in the Keys for a post Thanksgiving get away.

We started the morning off poling shallow flats. And were kept busy with lemon sharks, barracudas and a nice sized jack crevalle. Next we decided to try for seatrout. I've been doing fairly well with trout but it was slow yesterday. We did catch one small trout and a few ladyfish but the bite just wasn't what it has been. We ended the day with a bang- catching several large mangrove snappers up on the mangrove shorelines. All in all a great day with a couple of great guys. Thanks to Don and Richard for the fun day and the new trick Don showed me with the northern gadget.

Water temps will be on the rise this week and with it the bite should heat up as well.
